Designed to accommodate multigenerational living while respecting the scale and character of the original Cape-style home, this project combines a private living quarters addition with a substantial family expansion that feels as though it has always belonged. Rather than competing with the existing architecture, each new volume was carefully proportioned to reinforce the home’s traditional form.
The design includes a private in-law residence above a new three-car garage with its own entrance, providing independence for extended family while maintaining a close connection to the main residence. A separate three-story addition creates a new primary suite, family room, and walk-out home office, allowing the home to evolve alongside the family’s changing needs.
Matching roof pitches, restrained dormers, traditional trim details, and a cohesive material palette ensure the additions blend seamlessly with the original Cape architecture. The result is a flexible home that provides privacy, independence, and generous shared living spaces while preserving the timeless character of the original residence.
